Assignments
Assignments are writing tasks given to you by an instructor. Sometimes an assignment may have multiple deliverables - that is, pieces of an assignment that get turned in individually. For example, your research paper might be an assignment, but “Draft #1″ and “Draft #2″ would be separate deliverables, turned in at different times and graded separately.
Your Course Page contains all of the details about your assignments and their due dates. You’ll see links there labeled “Turn In” or “Resubmit” – both of those links will take you to the Assignment Details page.
You’ll see any instructions your instructor left for that assignment and a list of all of the deliverables for that assignment, along with notifications of whether or not you’ve submitted anything for each deliverable.
Deliverables come in two forms:
- Compose in Eli: in this case, your instructor wants you to write your assignment inside Eli. You’ll see a link with the deliverable labeled “Compose” – clicking this will open up a text editor. Here you can compose your response or you can copy-and-paste something you wrote in another program.
- Uploaded to Eli: in this case, your instructor wants you to upload a file you created and saved in another program to Eli. Clicking the “Submit” link with this deliverable will open a window that will let you browse your computer to find the file you want to upload.
Once you’ve submitted a deliverable, you can view what you submitted, either right in Eli or downloading the file you uploaded. You can also Resubmit a deliverable right up until the due date for the assignment is reached.
